Steve White is the Principal and founder of White SW Computer Law, a law firm which practices in the areas of Intellectual Property and Information Technology law and is admitted to legal practice in both Victoria and New South Wales.

White SW Computer Law is a boutique law practice with offices in Melbourne and Sydney, which provides legal services to: the information technology industry; information technology customers; intellectual property owners; and the telecommunications industry. It provides commercial legal advice, litigation, mediation and arbitration with an emphasis on intellectual property and information technology issues.

Prior to practising law, Steve worked in the IT industry for a number of years including time at IBM Australia as a software developer and as an instructor in Australia and South East Asia for IBM’s Customer education services in local area network products and services, operating systems, database design and communications systems.

Steve completed dual degrees in law and computer science at Melbourne University in 1991 and was admitted to practise law in 1992. In 1994, Steve established the law firm White SW Computer Law. In 2006 Steve completed a Masters of Industrial Property.

Steve is an Accredited Commercial Litigation Specialist, a registered trade mark attorney, a qualified mediator and arbitrator, a member of the Law Institute of Victoria, a member of the Law Society of New South Wales, a fellow of the Australian Computer Society and member of the ACS Communication Technology Board, an accredited mediator and graded arbitrator of the Institute of Arbitrators & Mediators Australia, a member of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Centre general list of mediators and arbitrators, a member of the Victorian Society for Computers and the Law, a member of the Copyright Society, a professional grade member of the Insolvency Practitioners Association of Australia and a member of LEADR. Steve has also completed a certificate in commercial mediation from the Accor Group, a professional certificate in arbitration and mediation from the University of Adelaide and an Advanced Insolvency course at The University of Southern Queensland.

Steve is a member of the Institute of Arbitrators & Mediators Australia’s .au domain name dispute resolution panel.

Steve has litigated extensively in the Federal Court in both Victoria and New South Wales, and the Supreme Court of Victoria against parties such as the ACCC, Telstra, Optus, Ericcson and numerous others in relation to trade practices, internet law, licensing disputes, intellectual property disputes such as copyright, trade mark and patent infringements. Steve is currently on the Law Institute of Victoria’s board of examiners for commercial litigation specialists.

Steve has acted for a wide range of clients in involved in intellectual property, information technology and telecommunications including various government departments and agencies, universities, information technology companies and their customers and telecommunication companies and their customers.

Steve is a regular conference speaker and has written various papers, which have been published both in Australia and internationally.

Steve is also the Managing Director of Software Escrow & Copyright Agents Pty Ltd.
